BISHOP SHELTON C. RHODES

Bishop Shelton C. Rhodes is the Pastor of Praise Cathedral Church of God In Christ, in San Antonio, Texas. He was appointed by Chief Apostle J. Drew Sheard, Presiding Bishop of the Church Of God In Christ, Inc., on December 2, 2021, following the transition of the late Bishop Samuel E. Iglehart.  Prior to this ecumenical appointment, Bishop Rhodes served as pastor of the Greater Zion Temple Church of God In Christ, in Temple Texas for approximately 20 years, where he led the ministry to exceptional growth, expanding its service territory and ministry outreach efforts through evangelism, pastoral teaching, and various civic and social partnerships across the state of Texas and into the southern regions of the country.

With more than 31 years of dedicated service to the Lord and His Church, Bishop Rhodes remains actively involved as a leader and most supportive member at the local, jurisdictional, and national levels. He has served in the very progressive Greater Temple District for 26 years, from the ranks of District Secretary to 21 years as District Superintendent. Most recently, he served approximately nine years as Administrative Assistant for the Texas Southwest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. For the past 23 years, he has served as Jurisdictional Treasurer, from the ranks of Assistant Treasurer, and as Vice Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. Bishop Rhodes is in his nineteenth year as Jurisdictional Trustee Board Chairman and has served in the capacity of interim pastor and district superintendent for approximately 20 churches and districts, as assigned by the jurisdictional prelate, the late Bishop S.E. Iglehart.

In November of 2016, Bishop Rhodes was the first, in Texas Southwest history, to be consecrated Auxiliary Bishop by The Most Reverend Bishop C. E. Blake, Sr., Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. in the 109th Holy Convocation, in St. Louis, Missouri- as recommended by the late Bishop S. E. Iglehart, Prelate.

On September 20, 2017, Bishop Rhodes was elected, and subsequently appointed by Bishop John H. Sheard, Chairman, to serve on the National Board of Bishop’s Judiciary Committee of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. In March 2018 Bishop Rhodes was appointed to serve as the finance secretary for the Texas Inter-jurisdictional Council of Bishops.

After thirty-six (36) years of exemplary service, Bishop Rhodes retired as a federal loan officer. He has also served his community as a board member of a local food and shelter non-profit, in addition to being a very supportive member of the Temple Chamber of Commerce and active conduit in the Temple City Council.

Bishop Shelton C. Rhodes is a 1984 graduate of Tarleton State University, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education, and is a state-certified teacher.

Bishop Rhodes is thankful to share his life and love with his wife of 34 years, Evangelist Missionary Deborah A. Rhodes. They have one son and one granddaughter.
